In the current crisis, many are wont to panic or dwell in fear for their lives, even more so because the threat comes from something invisible to the eye. However, we have the opportunity to live in hope and security, not only because we trust in the Almighty GOD (who remains on the throne and never, ever loses control of any life situation) but also because He is with us in the midst of anything we face.
In the midst of life’s storms, He is our constant lighthouse, guiding us towards through turbulent waters towards safety; the key is for us to continually keep our gaze on Him as our point of reference for whatever decision we choose to make. Even when the situation seems desperate, we can be assured that our Savior cares for and watches over us, now and in eternity.
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4
“Now it happened on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.’ And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, ‘Master, Master, we are perishing!’ Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, ‘Where is your faith?’ And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, ‘Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!’” Luke 8:22-25
As a final note, a beloved (and oft retold) story comes to mind:
One night I dreamed a dream.
I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, You said once I decided to follow You,
You’d walk and talk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, you would leave me.
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you,
never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
